About you:

We are looking for a passionate and ambitious Cook who will be responsible for ordering and preparing nutritionally balanced, freshly prepared meals for all children in our care. You will also be responsible for the safe and hygienic management of the nursery kitchen.

Main responsibilities

• To provide balanced and nutritional meals for all children attending the nursery, including providing separate meals for children with specific dietary needs;
• To adhere to the Policies & Procedures of the Nursery and compliance with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health-Food Safety, Health and Safety and within the guidelines of Ofsted.
• To ensure that all relevant records are kept in line with Health and Safety and Food Hygiene to satisfy the Environmental Health Department.
• To ensure that all foods are ready at the specified time and correctly served, making sure that the correct food is served to children with known allergies.
• To ensure systems for stock rotation are implemented. Ordering stock in line with requirements, keeping accounts and budget control. Maintaining correct stock levels, ensuring stock rotation and ensuring all stock is clearly labelled to include expiry dates.
• To ensure the regular removal of waste materials to the designated waste store.
• To be aware of COSHH and to follow relevant guidelines.
• To deputise for the Cook in all absences with the expectation of deputising full time when this is required.

Specific measures of success:

• Health and Safety: Having a good understanding of health and safety and food hygiene to minimise the risk of food contamination within the nursery
• Cleanliness and Hygiene: To ensure that hygiene and cleanliness within the kitchen is of the highest standard in accordance with Environmental Health requirements and legislation

Knowledge and Skills:

• A current Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 Food and Hygiene)
• A current First Aid Certificate
• Proven experience and the ability to organise, plan and cook nutritionally balanced meals for babies and small children who have different dietary needs
• An excellent understanding of basic hygiene and cleanliness
• Understanding of health and Safety regulations and COSHH
• Ideally have experience of working with minimal supervision
• Understands the importance of safeguarding and site security

Terms and Conditions:

Salary: £9.50 per hour based on experience

Salaries are usually reviewed in April. You will normally be eligible for a salary review after completing one year’s service.
