As category manager, working with the UK and Global Procurement teams, you will have a key role managing purchasing activity to deliver operational efficiencies and deliver investments to key strategic projects. You develop procurement strategies for category to drive competitive environment, efficiency in the procurement process and meet business strategy. You will have management of awarding contracts in line with procurement plans of value typically in excess of £600m.
What you’ll be doing
As category manager you will be the main point of contract for all purchasing activity within the designated category and responsible to ensure all purchasing activity is carried out in line with legal, regulatory and compliance requirements. You will improve, strengthen, and advise the business on supply chain activity and produce purchasing input to business contracting strategy.
You will understand the impact of contract terms, in terms of business risk and on delivery of goods/services to the business, to allow contracts to be negotiated to meet business requirements. Be able to succinctly explain complex and detailed commercial issues and give full understanding to management to reach business decisions. Evaluate, develop, and recommend solutions to complex commercial issues to mitigate risks to achieve objectives in light of an ever-changing commercial landscape by counterparties.
Lead complex negotiations and provide expert dispute resolution and negotiation support when significant contractual disputes arise including adjudication and arbitration. Lead complex strategic tenders for Group requirements for commodities and services to be implemented across Group. You will conduct analysis of pricing schedules and development of comparison processes between business models.
Capable of working under pressure, whilst being flexible and adaptable to manage multiple, conflicting, and changing priorities to meet business requirements. Advisor to wider global procurement team to identify best practice and leverage global purchasing activity and represent the company at external Trade and supplier events. Provide leadership and development of a team of procurement professionals.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for procurement professionals, educated to degree level in a commercial, technical or procurement discipline, with (membership of CIPS desirable) experience of leading large and complex contract negotiations in organisations of similar size and scale. You will be a confident communicator, able to influence and interact with varying levels of stakeholders including key external suppliers. Strong numerical analysis skills are essential.
The post holder will have knowledge of general and specific contractual terms and conditions, and experience of best practice procurement principles, practices, and processes including both tactical and strategic. A collaborative team player with strong team leadership, able to build a team and coach, mentor and develop performance of team members. A proven ability to build relationships with senior leaders and constructively challenge status quo and produce strategies and plans that balance competing priorities.
