Job Title: Content & Digital Marketing Officer

Job Purpose: To support the Communications Team in delivering the Communication Strategy to ensure a high level of quality engagement across all key audience sectors

Reporting Line: Director of Marketing, Communications & Admissions

Start Date: ASAP

Tenure: Permanent, Full-time (52 weeks of the year)

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week (8.00am to 4.00pm)

Salary: Competitive

The Content & Digital Marketing Officer is a member of the Communications Team, whose purpose is to support the Communications Team in ensuring high-calibre communications are created and disseminated across key audience sectors.

The ideal candidate will have been working in a marketing capacity for at least 3 to 5 years and have a solid understanding of the role of digital marketing and sound marketing principles within a business to increase recruitment and create positive communications with all key audiences.

You must be a creative, energetic and pro-active individual, happy to help out with all levels of work to create engaging and informative content across a range of mediums and channels.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter, with ambition to create a significant impact within their role. They must be a credible ambassador for the School and possess excellent writing, analytical and reporting skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To lead on the delivery of Surbiton High School’s social media and digital content:
    • To develop and manage innovative and creative content campaigns across multiple channels
    • To create a high-end, high frequency, digital online presence through the School’s social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Youtube) and Google my business pages
    • To utilise SEO, PPC, re-marketing, Facebook ads to drive enquiries
    • To develop an ongoing content plan for social media, researching content strategy opportunities
  • To use Google Analytics for frequent reporting and analysis
  • To work closely with the Digital and Social Media Producer to create new video content
  • To assist with photography and video where necessary
  • To monitor mentions of the School across digital sites and forums
  • To maintain, develop and improve the School website, creating a regular cycle of updates and checks on content
  • To support the marketing of charitable and community events such as Pop Talks, House events, podcasts etc
  • To fulfil advertising requirements across the three schools, including booking, price negotiation and ad fulfilment
  • To assist with the gathering, creation and editing of news stories for publication on the School website, social media and printed materials such as the Journal
  • To proactively source, write and edit new stories and press releases for use in online and offline media, encouraging contributions of news from staff and pupils
  • To assist with the production and collation of information for printed materials; prospectuses, leaflets and newsletters
  • To update and maintain entries on online directories and sites such as Mumsnet, Netmums, Good Schools Guide, ISC and source new ones where relevant
  • To create and report on surveys as and when required, to gain insights in the viewpoints of key audiences
  • To maintain monthly reporting – google analytics, social media engagement etc
  • To contribute to the development and implementation of the School Communication Strategy and contribute innovative and new ideas to the Communications Team
  • To develop landing pages and working with other members of the Communications Team to coordinate a consistent marketing approach
  • To communicate effectively with internal and external providers to build professional relationships
  • To support the Director of Marketing, Communications and Admissions and the Communications Team to fulfil the remit of the Communications Department to meet the School’s Strategic objectives
  • To work flexibly within the team and autonomously as needed to manage your duties and conflicting priorities


Person Specification

The successful candidate will be likely to fit the following profile:


  • Educated to degree level or similar, ideally with a Marketing degree, or CIM qualification (or equivalent)
  • A number of years’ experience working in digital and/or content marketing within a commercial environment and a good understanding of the marketing landscape, specifically the digital landscape
  • Expertise and experience of working with Wordpress sites
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong IT skills
  • Ability to build strong working relationships at all levels
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good time management with the ability to work under pressure and prioritise as necessary
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to prioritise a busy workload
  • Strong creative flair to develop new ideas and contribute to the Communications Plan
  • Understanding and appreciation of independent education
  • Experience of working with a wide range of digital media
  • Excellent copywriting capabilities with the ability to quickly produce high quality work tailored to audiences
  • Awareness of trends and best practice in digital communications and marketing
  • Experience of monitoring, evaluation and analysis in a previous role
  • Experience of working with CRM systems, ideally including Hubspot
  • Experience of working with media scheduling tools such as Hootsuite, Tweetdeck, Buffer
  • Experience of multi-channel marketing especially digital.
