Design Group Lead Job at RENISHAW PLC

RENISHAW PLC Wotton-under-Edge

Job Description
Renishaw’s Encoder Products Division (EPD) designs and supplies cutting-edge position feedback technology to the world’s precision measurement, automation, and manufacturing industries. It is highly likely that something you own contains a part or device that was manufactured with the help of one of Renishaw’s encoder products.

EPD is made up of engineers, scientists and technicians all working together to produce market leading products for sale around the world. We start with cutting edge optical, algorithm and circuit design, developing our own ASICs and sensors where required; we then use innovative mechanical engineering to turn our core technology into a range of desirable products for our broad customer base.

Working closely with colleagues in our manufacturing division, we develop manufacturing and assembly processes and software to deliver quality products by the hundreds of thousands that in turn, perform reliably and repeatedly to sub-micron accuracies for our customers.
The Division is looking for a senior Engineer to join its expanding Current Products group. You will work as a part of a focussed, multi-disciplinary team employing a wide range of skills, to enable the continued supply of our high-volume product ranges to the market.
This involves maintaining the high quality standards our customers have come to expect, but also to continually weigh up how our product ranges could be manufactured, assembled and tested more cost efficiently.
Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of multidisciplinary Engineers, ensuring the cost-effective assembly and delivery of high quality products.
  • Highly effective communication between a range of engineering, supply chain, production and direct staff.
  • Flexibility in approach to problem solving, while operating in a highly reactive design and production environment
  • Help develop understanding of our products through the prototyping and testing of new designs and assembly systems, while in a high volume production and design environment.
  • Produce detailed and concise documentation for our assembly and test systems, ensuring they can be supported through the lifetime of the product
Key requirements
  • An engineering degree, or further education qualification (such as an HND) and suitable industrial experience.
  • A personable character, employing clear and concise communication.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
  • The ability to produce clear and concise reports.
  • Previous experience in an Engineering design industry.
  • An aptitude for problem solving in a reactive production environment.
Desirable requirements
  • Experience in designing electrical, mechanical or optical systems.
  • Experience with motion control systems.
  • Experience in a high volume production environment.
  • An appreciation of metrology systems.
  • Experience using 3D CAD systems.
Person specification
The ideal candidate is a personable self-starter, capable of working to lead a small team of Engineers, to efficiently resolve an array of Engineering design problems in a high-volume Production environment. The ability to distil and prioritise “what is important” in a variety of situations.
