Position summary / Main purpose of the role:

This is a ground-breaking collaboration designed to launch and sell products driven to create the smart home of the future with health and wellness at the focus. We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated Embedded Software Engineer to work with an experienced team of hardware and software developers and product managers to develop cutting-edge consumer health products and services. The candidate will be responsible for the design, development, test, and delivery of the embedded software for consumer health products. The candidate must be able to apply expertise in embedded system design, architecture, and implementation to the development of high-volume, next generation products. Must have experience using and working with embedded processors, embedded Linux, real time operating systems, build systems, programming languages, network architectures, and software development tools.

This job requires a team player with good organizational and planning skills, solid verbal and written communication, and mentoring skills. The ideal candidate should have a passion for new technologies and innovations with high energy, a positive attitude and self-motivation.

Essential Responsibilities:

• 
  Designs and develops efficient, bug free software.
• Follows a disciplined Agile/Scrum software development process in task estimation, design, development, code reviews, unit/integration testing and defect fixing of products.
• Works with subject matter experts to produce requirements and develop solutions.
• Assists in the creation of technical design documents for the products.
• Participates in application design sessions and code reviews to ensure accuracy towards product requirements.
• Analyzes existing software to debug and troubleshoot reported issues.
• Works with other engineers to promote the reuse of code and designs in current projects.
• Identifies and recommends software development process improvement initiatives.
• Assists in the technical analysis of potential tools and commercial products.

Required Qualifications:

• 
  3+ years using the C++11 or later programming language.
• 3+ years working in a Linux software development environment.
• 2+ years using scripting languages (Bash, Perl, Python or similar).
• 2+ years experience with Buildroot or Yocto or equivalent.
• 2+ years experience with embedded real-time operating systems.
• Experience with embedded development tools.
• Experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Excellent communication and effective writing skills are essential.
• Strong problem solving skills in a fast paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 
  Experience with medical related product development.
• Experience with consumer health product development.
• Experience with multi-core firmware design and inter-processor communications.
• Experience with Linux kernel development.
• Proficient with standard software development defect tracking systems (such as Bugzilla, Jira or similar).
• Understanding of peripheral interfaces including: I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, HDMI, etc.
• Hands on experience in using development tools (IDEs, Emulators, analyzers, oscilloscopes) and debugging of real time issues.
