An opportunity has arisen for someone with a proven track record in enforcement to join our Asset Performance teams in Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire.

You will play a valuable role in protecting our flood risk management assets and preventing environmental harm from illegal and prohibited activities by using a range of enforcement approaches. You'll be confident to engage with a wide range of stakeholders. You'll possess advanced influencing and persuasion skills and have the tenacity to pursue legal action for the most serious breaches. To be successful in this role you'll be able to quickly build rapport with people, act an ambassador for the Environment Agency with external parties and have experience of building a compelling case that will withstand legal scrutiny and challenge.

In addition to this primary role, you'll support other AP portfolios, such as assisting the Flood Incident Duty Officers by carrying out NIRS assessments, raising requests to resolve minor asset defects, including the removal of fallen trees, carrying our Public Safety Risk Assessments and other Asset Management tasks.

The Environment Agency take part in incident response. Our new Inclusive Incident Management Policy has been developed to support all new starters to find an incident role to suit their individual needs and circumstances. Full training will be provided.

You'll be based at either the Brampton (Huntingdon), Ely or King's Lynn offices and be required to attend your base location on a regular basis.. However we are adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home.

The post is full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered.

The team
The Asset Performance Kings Lynn and Ely teams consist of asset management and engineering professionals. You'll be responsible for responding to all enforcement related matters.

You'll work closely with other Enforcement Officers in the area to prioritise cases and promote a consistent way of working. You'll need to maintain excellent relationships with our Environmental Crime Team and our Partnership and Strategic Overview team who process the Flood Risk Activity permits and carry out compliance checking.
Experience/skills required
  • It is preferable you hold a Level 2 warrant or working towards obtaining this level and can demonstrate a proven track record in enforcement including the preparation of case files.
  • You have excellent oral and written communication skills and you pay close attention to details.
  • You possess excellent technical knowledge of the Environment Agency's enforcement policies and procedures.
  • You've advanced influencing and persuasion skills and you're confident to lead difficult conversations.
  • You display the upmost professionalism and act as an ambassador for the Environment Agency with external parties; ensuring our reputation is enhanced.
  • You're a self-starter that can effectively manage your own workload.
  • You prioritise your own, and others, health safety and wellbeing.
  • You'll be comfortable working across teams and making frequent travel across the East Anglia Area.
  • You'll have a good appreciation of flood risk management assets and their benefits.

A full UK driving licence is essential.
