Interview date: Week commencing 6th February 2023

About Us:

Support the successful delivery of diverse events at two unique historic sites.

At the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people at the heart of everything we do. We believe taking care of heritage sites is of great value to our community and local pride. Tucked away in the leafy Holland Park neighbourhood stand Leighton House and Sambourne House. These are the homes – and studios – of two ‘celebrities’ of the late Victorian era.

Painter Frederic, Lord Leighton was the most prominent artist of his day. Edward Linley Sambourne was Chief Cartoonist at the infamous satirical magazine, Punch. Today, we preserve their houses as museums, filled with sculpture, ceramics, glassware and the echoes of history. Now you can join a growing team delivering events at the museums, with a remit to delight hirers while achieving an income that enables us to preserve these important spaces for the future.

The Role:

As Events Assistant, you will help to prepare and deliver a host of commercial hire events at Leighton House and Sambourne House. Many events are held in the evenings and range from corporate dinners, to receptions, to intimate operatic performances. Working closely with fellow events and museum staff and our exceptional catering partner, you will ensure clients and attendees benefit from high quality – from access and set up, to final clearance and lock-up at the event’s end.

At the museums, we also run our own programme of public events. From film screenings, to private guided tours and exhibition openings, you will help to deliver all kinds of events without a hitch. You will also play a key part in delivering weekend learning events, providing excellent experiences for family audiences. In all circumstances, visitors to the museums will be able to rely on you for friendly and efficient advice, information and assistance. In this way, you will help to keep the museums and their contents safe and secure. In return for your commitment, you will benefit from training opportunities spanning events, and health and safety.

Please refer to the Job Description for more information

About You:

To join us, you will need experience in the events industry and willingness to work during evenings and weekends. If your experience has not been gained in museum settings, you will certainly demonstrate an appreciation of the importance of preserving history in museums and galleries. You are highly organized, with a keen eye for detail, and you demonstrate willingness to get stuck into manual work, for example by helping to set up AV equipment and seating.

A real team player, you demonstrate great communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of colleagues. Naturally, you also understand the importance of supporting visitors and their access needs. Good IT skills are also vital.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme, generous annual leave, and excellent learning and development opportunities.
