Job summary

We are looking for an experienced and talented event manager to take the operational lead on a range of large commercial events hosted in the nation’s forests in England.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who has strong leadership, operational, health and safety and contract management skills.

This is a national role and is offered on the basis of blended working, a combination of office based and virtual working. The role can be based at any Forestry England office with good travel and IT connections.

The post holder will need to regularly travel (including some overnight stays) to sites across England as required by the role, including event operational responsibilities and duties.

Job Background Information

Our recreation and visitor experience business plays an essential role in fulfilling the purpose of Forestry England.

Our large commercial events programme meets our Recreation objectives by providing entertainment in unique locations to engage with existing & new audiences.

Our current programme of large commercial events includes:

  • Outdoor Cinema
  • Illuminated Light Trails
  • Forest Live - Our flagship live music event series

To support the effective delivery of our large commercial event programme Forestry England has a Customer Relations Team who run a dedicated office in Thetford, selling tickets and providing customer information for all of the above events.


Responsibilities

To develop, manage, lead and coordinate the operational delivery of various large commercial event programmes across the public Forest Estate in England.

This includes acting as the national operational events lead on our portfolio of illuminated light trails, including any future expansion locations.

In addition, acting as the national operation lead for our Outdoor Cinema programme.

Other responsibilities include helping our Events Programme Manager source, procure and then lead on the operational delivery on any new large commercial event opportunities across the wider Forestry England estate.

Finally, providing event management support to the wider Forest Live management team on the planning and delivery of our Forest Live concert programme, including any future expansion locations.

To be successful in this role you will need to have significant experience and expertise in managing the operational delivery of large scale commercial public events. A core part of Forestry England’s strategic approach is to grow commercial activity and the events programme is central to this growth.

KEY WORK AREAS

  • Operation lead on our Outdoor Cinema programme including a focus on further expansion at other sites across Forestry England.
  • Operational lead & advisory role for illuminated light trails including expansion sites and concepts
  • Oversee all Health and Safety and operational delivery for the aforementioned events including liaising with key partners, local authorities and contractors, as well as acting as Client in regard to CDM Regulations.
  • Regular liaison and collaboration with the Customer Relations Team and National Marketing team leads to ensure an effective event announcement, on-sale an on-going marketing campaign is maintained on all applicable events to ensure as successful profitable ticketing outcome is achieved.
  • New business development focus to research and procure new event partnerships that align to our large commercial events strategy.
  • Attend regular Senior Leadership meeting where applicable with event partners.
  • Take an active role in the successful onboarding of the new Forest Live Co-Promoter Partner, including support the Forest Live Operations lead with concert planning and delivery.
  • Support with the production of our Forestry England annual events delivery strategy, including leading on all agreed operational elements.
  • Support, mentor and guide local Forestry England staff in managing & developing new and existing events at their sites including identifying and supporting any industry recommend training opportunities.
  • Play an active role contributing toward the Marketing and Comms elements on all large commercial events across our estate to ensure a consistent approach is maintained.

Essential

  • Significant operational experience of delivering large scale public events preferably across outdoor venues within the live entertainment industry.
  • Leadership experience working with a diverse range of colleagues, contractor, sponsors and volunteers.
  • Health and safety knowledge and experience in an events setting.
  • Evidence of developing new business event partnerships to achieve combined strategic objectives.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both in writing and in presentations, engaging internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of IT systems and experienced user of MS Office

Desirable

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject e.g. Event Management or Project Management
  • Qualification in Construction (Design & Management) Regulations (CDM 2015) or other relevant accredited Health and Safety such as IOSH or NEBOSH certification
  • Expertise and experience in event marketing
  • Experience of customer relationship management within an events context
  • Knowledge of outdoor recreation or land management sector
  • Personal license holder

Working Week

This is a full-time role for 37 hours per week, which will normally be worked from Monday to Friday each week. However, the nature of the work includes requirement for significant weekend, public and privilege holiday and evening work especially during the set-up and delivery phases of event programmes including Forest Live and our illuminated light trails.

Licences

The duties of this post require the applicant to have a full current driving licence that enables them to drive in the UK. However, Forestry England is willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants that would allow them to do the job by any other means.

Will the role involve travel?

Yes. The role will involve regular travel to forest locations nationally, with some overnight stays, as required..
