The Family Events Officer helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by supporting with the annual programme of Family Events to give families of children and young people with a vision impairment the chance to take a break, broaden their experiences, seek appropriate professional support and meet others in a similar situation. This role sits within our events team in our wider Children and Young People Services.
We recognise that the world looks a little bit different since the pandemic. Therefore, we’re committed to enabling our staff to work where best suits the needs of the individual, their team, and the organisation. For this role, there will be opportunities to work from home as well as our Birmingham office and requires some weekend work throughout the year.
This role is 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, with 26 days paid holiday (excluding bank holidays) a year.

Candidate profile
To be able to fulfil this role, the skills and experience we are looking for in a potential candidate include;
Essential
Achievement of GCSE passes or equivalent at least at grade C - Maths & English or equivalent.- Demonstrable experience of planning and running events
- Experience of working within a budget to deliver a project/event
- Working knowledge of visual impairment or disability.
- Sound knowledge of current legislation in relation to health and safety and risk management
- Assessment and planning skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
Desirable
Current relevant qualification relating to health and safety and risk assessment.- Experience of working in the third sector.
- Experience of facilitating events for children with disabilities and their families.
- Knowledge of how visual impairment can have an impact on the lives of Children & Young People and their families.
