Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the NHS commercial team at the UK’s largest distance dispensing pharmacy. Working from our Leeds or Leicester offices, we are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our established and successful commercial team. The Generics Buyer will be responsible for delivering margin and availability targets across an agreed supplier base.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for managing the performance of an agreed and established group of suppliers
• Responsible for setting up and building relationships with new suppliers, identified as key additions to the supplier base
• Responsible for delivering agreed margin targets set as a team, but also individually across the allotted supplier base
• Responsible for maximising availability (service level) by ensuring orders are placed in a timely manner, and any out of stocks are sourced via an alternative supplier in a timely manner at best cost
• Responsible for minimising owings (back orders) by ensuring orders are placed in a timely manner, and any out of stocks are sourced via an alternative supplier in a timely manner at best cost
• Responsible for managing stock holding to within agreed cash and weeks cover targets
• Responsible for managing new launches effectively and profitably across the allotted supplier base
• Working closely with the Buying Manager to ensure effective operation of the team. Deputising for the Buying Manager when needed and coaching the Buying Assistants to succeed and deliver against their targets
• Working with the brand team to agree brand equalisation deals where commercially beneficial to do so

Skills

• Microsoft Office proficient
• Ability to use Excel at intermediate level (Vlookups, Pivots, calculations, sort and filter etc)
• Demonstrate drive, initiative and proactivity in role
• Proven ability to work both as part of a bigger team and individually
• Ability to prioritise and organise tasks and workload
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to negotiate effectively with suppliers as appropriate in order to achieve margin and stock targets, preferably with some formal training (e.g. GAP or similar)
• Proven experience of success in a commercial environment, either in retail or in the supplier base, with the results-based evidence to back it up
• Experience in the pharmacy industry is preferred but not essential
• Experience of working in a pressured environment, delivering against tight deadlines
• Proven negotiation experience
