Oxford Nanopore employs from multiple subject areas including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation.
The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market. Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis (for rapid insights), in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths.
Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere. We offer real-time nanopore-based DNA/RNA sequencing technology: accessible, easy to use and fully scalable for any requirement.
Reporting to the Bioinformatics Benchmarking Team Lead, the successful candidate will work collaboratively to interpret sequencing data in a range of biological contexts to answer biological questions and to give best-practice advise to customers and our support teams. The role will involve evaluating different analysis methods (where appropriate) to understand the differences of the different approaches and effects that this can have on the final interpretation of the data. The job holder will communicate their findings to internal partners and present the group's work in meetings and webinars.
This role can be UK or USA based.
Other responsibilities include:
- Working on the development of pipelines for analysis of applications of DNA and direct RNA sequencing using ONT's nanopore sensing platform. This will cover the full range of existing and new applications.
- Working with laboratory-based Genomic Applications scientists in the group to help them plan and refine experiments, to interpret the data generated in the appropriate biological context, and to report the results clearly.
- Interacting with other data analysts and bioinformaticians in the company, to utilise and adapt their tools for analysis, and to work with developers to transfer methods and analyses to workflows.
- Working closely with other applications groups in different locations to keep up-to-date with latest trends, provide feedback and incorporate them into analyses where appropriate.
- Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team on the entire experimental cycle from sample collection through to high-quality publication or other presentation.
What We're Looking For...
- Proven at performing appropriate bioinformatics sequence analyses for a range of different kinds of project and a history of involvement in the whole experimental process.
- Experienced with scripting languages, e.g. Perl/Python, R etc. and up to date with the latest literature about sequencing and analysis.
- PhD with postdoctoral industry experience (or Masters with extensive industry experience ) involving a meaningful amount of analysis and visualisation of DNA and RNA sequence data.
- This role will suit a creative, self-reliant, positive individual with a can-do attitude and the ability to stay focused in fast-paced situations.
- We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment.
