The role:
We seek a highly entrepreneurial and commercially astute individual with the ability to develop effective relationships with academics and academic schools to proactively identify opportunities with commercial potential arising from the world leading research that takes place at St Andrews. Having identified such ideas and opportunities, you will help to shape and deliver the development pathways to take the ideas forward within the University and then beyond the University and into society.
You will be part of a dynamic and driven team within which you will have a key role in proactively identifying new innovation from the University of St Andrews Research Portfolio, identifying and helping to navigate pathways to the market. Reporting directly to the Head of Technology Transfer, your duties and responsibilities will include;
- Working with academic researchers to support the successful commercialisation of university generated knowledge.
- Managing a portfolio of technologies to increase the number of deals secured for the University.
- Undertaking commercial due diligence and to develop the optimal strategy to test the market and understand the commercial potential of a given technology.
- Actively supporting the generation of applications for translational funding awards to further develop University IP towards the market need.
- The preparation and pitching of technology roadmaps for internal review.
- Deploying an active approach to engaging external parties, to support industrial funding and commercialisation.
- Leading on the contractual negotiation of commercial terms with external parties.
- Supporting all processes required to optimise the team’s ability to deliver collectively against individual and team goals and to provide accurate sources of outputs for reporting purposes.
- Ensuring that academics are kept well engaged and informed of the commercialisation process.
Educated to degree level, preferably within a physical or life sciences discipline, you will ideally have proven experience developing innovative ideas from concept to commercialisation. An experience of company formation would be useful.
You will have the ability to interact with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels, combined with first class communication skills. Possessing a genuine ability to grasp complex technical concepts, you will be experienced in deal making coupled with an ability to create value from innovation and intellectual property.
