About this role
We are recruiting an IP Transport Automation Specialist that will work as part of a squad and be responsible for identifying and supporting the build of automation solutions, including topologies for our ever-evolving technical and business challenges. In this job, you will be part of the team driving forward automation capabilities and solutions across the Mobile Innovation Labs. You will be responsible for identifying solutions through applying relevant processes and practices, using tools and technology and applying soft skills such as effective communication and engaging with members of your squad, the wider technology delivery teams, our business partners, and our stakeholders.
In addition, as an IP Transport Automation Specialist, you will support the technical automation roadmap and build those solutions as part of the squad. You will have the opportunity for a hybrid working model (3 days in any of our Borehamwood, or Bristol Offices and 2 days wherever you want).
You'll have the following responsibilities
- Implement and support tools that aid functional or performance testing and automation of common tasks within the technology labs.
- Support the business in ensuring that all aspects of patching and vulnerability on the IP transport layer and associated servers are monitored, kept up-to-date and rolled out across test labs equipment.
- Be ready and willing to adapt to Agile methods such as Scrum and Kanban.
- Champion and drive continuous improvement / Continuous design for the service we offer to our key stakeholders – Test, Design and Operations.
- Create Lab build patterns & topologies for re-use in future solution design settings, including the test requirements for regression testing and in life Quality Assurance.
You'll have the following essential skills & experience
- Expert level relevant knowledge of IP Transport.
- Excellent understanding of how a mobile network operates, the interactions and interfaces, and what they each do.
- Experience in command line (or) design (or) operational knowledge in one or more of the following networking vendor equipment – Nokia (7750), Cisco (7K), Juniper (MX), Checkpoint, F5.
- Knowledge and experience in transmission equipment and associated technologies ATN910’s/IPSECGw
- Understanding of network automation, blade server technology and virtualisation scenarios.
- Solid experience in CheckPoint/Fortinet Firewall product families.
- Experience in scripting such as Python, Robot Framework or willing to learn.
- Good understanding of the architecture & principles underpinning Cloud Native Mobile Networks (from 2G-5G), the mobile services BT provides to consumer and enterprise customers.
- Able to interpret and implement complex transport designs within test and proof of concept networks.
- Technical experience implementing interior routing protocols such as Integrated IS-IS and OSPF.
- Technical experience with internet routing and architecture (BGP4) and can implement it into a service provider network.
- Technical experience implementing modern and legacy Data Centre and LAN switching technologies, primarily within a Cisco LAN switched environment (Cat6k, Nexus 7k).
The following skills & experience are nice to have
- Either has passed Cisco CCNP, Juniper JNCIP or has demonstrable equivalent knowledge and experience.
- ability to work within virtual and often remote project teams – using collaborative tools to best effect.
- good understanding of network virtualization, cloud computing, and automation.
