Junior Scientist (Radioactive Waste) Job at Tradebe Management Limited
Tradebe require a Junior Scientist (Radioactive Waste) for our site in Fawley, Southampton.
Qualifications: Qualified to degree level in a relevant Science discipline is essential, ideally in Chemistry or an associated subject. Candidates with equivalent experience in a related field will also be considered.
Past Experience: Experience and knowledge of scientific principles that can be applied to radioactive waste management. Ability to develop into a more senior role.
Main purpose of role:
To assist with the management of the processes involved in the control of radioactive inputs onto the thermal treatment site, processing and storage of waste under authorisation from the Environment Agency and to maintain accurate records.
Pay and Benefits:
- £25.5k to £32k p/a.
- 10% bonus per quarter
- Monday to Friday, 37.5-hour week.
- 25 days holiday plus 8 Bank Holidays.

Responsibilities:
- Radiation Protection Supervisor (following training).
- Check radioactive wastes on receipt at Fawley site as required.
- Assist with programming radioactive waste for incineration and maintaining accurate disposal records.
- Resolving queries with Customer Services and Operations, raising reports where required.
- Assist with internal and external Duty of Care audits and customer/stakeholder visits as required
- Maintain good customer relations ensuring contract compliance and providing excellent response and service.
- Carry out capability review of radioactive enquiries.
- Provide quotes for radioactive wastes for disposal at the Fawley site and also wastes that are being disposed of at alternative sites.
- Assist with booking radioactive waste in compliance with EPR authorisation and internal procedures.
- Book transport and raise transport documents and labels for incoming consignments.
- Issue invoices & destruction certificates for radioactive wastes.
- Comply with applicable safety, environmental, quality, company procedures / policy, legislative and regulatory requirements
Other Essential Skills:
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office)
- Attention to detail and ability to question
- Professional and positive attitude
- Ambitious and keen to progress into a more senior role
- Willing to work towards or holding one or more professional accreditations in Science, Radioactive Waste Advisor or Radiation Protection (e.g., CChem, RWA etc)
- Health & Safety and environmental legislation
- Good written, presentation and verbal communication skills
- Aware for the need of discretion & confidentiality
- Be able to work under specified and agreed time constraints
- Team player and able to work under own initiative
- FLT licence (desirable)
- IOSH Managing Safety (desirable)
