Thanks to the continued success of our internal Engineering and Sustainable Delivery department, we are growing and investing in our project delivery teams. We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, confident and motivated M&E DSEAR Project Engineer to join the Avonmouth team in Bristol.

What will I be doing?

As the M&E DSEAR Project Engineer, you will work as part of our in-house engineering team and assist in the engineering, management and delivery of MEICA projects working at Avonmouth water treatment centre.

Your primary duty will be to work closely with M&E Project Managers to ensure projects deliver the engineering requirements of the business and are fit for purpose, while also providing robust challenge to the status quo to deliver savings and innovations.

You will be the key technical point of contact for DSEAR mechanical and electrical engineering and construction issues on your projects, the role is crucial for providing the link between design and delivery and will involve office and site-based working. Liaising with other internal delivery teams, commercial teams and operational teams will also be a key aspect of the role.

The DSEAR Project Engineer will be responsible for project and maintenance delivery preparation

Some of your day-to-day duties will include:

  • providing engineering and constructability advice and input through the design and construction phases of projects
  • challenging established thinking to drive innovative sustainable solutions that can deliver savings to the business with minimal compromise to the quality of engineering
  • reviewing design information to ensure suitability and compliance with company design standards and procurement rules
  • managing DSEAR works and site wide improvements
  • managing ATEX inspections and rectification works
  • providing onsite engineering support to the site installation teams during construction and close out to continue delivering savings and high-quality installs
  • leading and managing the sustainable procurement of mechanical and electrical equipment required for construction projects, in line with cost and programme targets, ensuring compliance with company procurement rules and achieving best value
  • assisting with preparing the technical elements of contracts and sub-contracts
  • liaising with suppliers to ensure quality and programme targets are met
  • reviewing the technical validity of estimates and commercial forecasts
  • coordinating site visits and survey work to ensure designs can be completed correctly and efficiently
  • assist with monitoring progress and reporting to the M&E Project Manager
  • compiling and checking project operation and maintenance manuals, along with other associated project completion documentation.

What are the requirements?

We are seeking a highly enthusiastic and passionate DSEAR M&E Project Engineer with a proven commitment to delivering projects and programmes of work. The successful applicant will have DSEAR and COMPEX qualifications, an understanding of DSEAR documentation, including hazardous area classification documents, zone drawings, descriptive design documents and ignition hazard assessments. They will ideally have previous experience working with BioGas systems, on both a practical and theoretical level.

You will also have a sound technical understanding and confidence in mechanical and electrical engineering, along with a keen desire to continually develop your knowledge further. Ideally, although not essential, you’ll have previous experience in the water industry, CDM and confined space.

To be successful, we are looking for a great communicator, who can demonstrate creative engineering thinking and make decisions effectively. You will be comfortable managing your own time and planning your own work. You will be able to influence at varying levels of the business and have a good commercial awareness with relevant contractual understanding.

Ideally you will be educated to HND/Degree level or have the equivalent experience, while also being professionally registered or seeking registration is desirable, with a focus on personal and professional development.
