Path Links is a networked NHS Pathology service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. All Path Links laboratories are accredited to United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189:2012 standards.
A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is an integral part of a pathology laboratory team. An MLA supports Biomedical Scientists in delivering a first class diagnostic service to medical professionals.
The MLA role is both challenging and rewarding. It is centred around ensuring patients receive the very best level of care in the analysis of their samples and the results that are produced. These results inform medical professionals on important decisions that they make regarding patient care.

A Medical Laboratory Assistant (MLA) is part of a Microbiology team. They provide services to Clinicians and General Practitioners, and assist qualified laboratory staff in the delivery of an effective service. This may include support duties in other laboratory areas.
Delegated work and duties will be arranged and performed under the direct and indirect supervision of a State Registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) utilising Standard Operating Procedures. Staff will be required to undertake extensive ‘in-house’ training using training modules and competency assessments to achieve a level of knowledge equivalent to NVQ level II qualification.
The role is very hands on and will require the successful applicant to work with a variety of specimen types and pieces of equipment to deliver analytical results. There is also a responsibility for general laboratory duties, such as cleaning, stock management and maintenance of equipment.
The successful applicant will need to have a good level of attention to detail and understand the importance of the work undertaken and getting it right first time
