We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join our team as a full time project officer leading on the delivery of a number of closely linked marine projects within Plymouth Sound and Estuaries Marine Protected Area (MPA).

You will be responsible for delivering an annual work plan, agreed and supported by a Steering Group made up of Plymouth City Council, Cornwall Council, South Hams/ West Devon District Councils and Natural England. The projects focuses around delivering a suite of activities that protect sensitive marine habitats from the potential impacts of informal recreation.

We are looking for someone with a passion for the Ocean who thrives on working with stakeholders, communities and project partners delivering a range of outputs through networks, events and external contracts. There will be opportunities to work with the National Marine Park Ranger Team and the Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum Coordinator as well as marine teams from Cornwall and South Devon.

We would like you to be:

o Solution-orientated with a “can do” attitude, flexible and keen to learn. Imaginative, with a drive to help protect habitats and promote well managed recreational opportunities within the MPA

o Community focused, able to co-create projects, activities and events with local people and interest groups. Keen to promote positive behaviour change through community and stakeholder education and engagement plans and awareness raising programmes

o A good communicator promoting projects through successful communication plans with clear and consistent messaging and confidence to actively engage with a wide range of stakeholders, groups, clubs and communities

o Organised with good attention to detail, delivering monitoring & evaluating projects, liaising with partners, attending meetings, keeping records, monitoring budgets and writing reports.

We would like you to have a working knowledge of natural environment/marine legislation and an understanding of community development best practice. Ideally, you will be working towards eligibility for professional membership of an appropriate Institute.

Line management and office base will be within Plymouth City Council with regular opportunities to work closely with project partners from Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum, Cornwall Council, South Hams District Council and Natural England and spend time in other offices across the MPA.
