Parliamentary Officer Job at UK100

UK100 Remote

Location: Virtual but the postholder will be expected to work from the UK100 London
office at a minimum of two days per month. Due to the nature of this role the postholder needs
to either live in Greater London or be within easy commuting distance to London / able to
travel regularly to London.

We are looking for somebody who has experience of politics and parliament. The role
would suit somebody who has worked closely with Senior stakeholders, UK Government Officials,
MPs and peers. Understanding how the UK Parliament works is essential for the role and being
able to communicate complex arguments in simple and powerful ways will be skills needed to
support our members and partners to advocate for effective local climate action. If you know
and understand local government, even better.

The role will be part of a team that engages with parliamentarians on behalf of UK10,
through meetings, events, briefings and newsletters.

Key responsibilities:
Working with the Campaigns Manager, develop and deliver a parliamentary and
political engagement plan that connects UK100’s members of local leaders with
Parliamentarians to support UK100’s aims and objectives.

Identify opportunities for influence within the UK Parliament, working with key
Parliamentarians and priority partners to influence legislation and policy in-line with
UK100 priorities.

Build and maintain relationships with key parliamentarians to support UK100’s work
with local authority leaders.

Develop and deliver effective messaging and content to convey UK100’s priorities to
parliamentarians, their staff and government officials, through briefings and parliamentary
questions, writing newsletters and managing online and in person events.

Provide a secretariat for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Sustainable
Finance and the APPG on Air Pollution.

Lead relationship management with APPG stakeholders (supporters and
Parliamentarians), including growing their network and support the development and
maintenance of UK100’s CRM database.

Support and comply with UK100’s guidance on branding, tone of voice and key
messages, positively contributing towards raising UK100’s profile.

Collaborate through matrix working with UK100 staff to achieve the organisation's
goals.

We are a small team. Ad hoc duties will thus arise, and every team member is
expected to support the team efforts.

Person specification criteria

Knowledge

Demonstrable experience of utilising a range of Parliamentary mechanisms

Good understanding of the relevant policy and politics to achieving net zero and
air quality

Experience

Working within Parliament and/or Whitehall

Establishing and maintaining partnerships with key Parliamentarians and
stakeholders to influence policy and legislation

Experience of organising effective meetings and events and writing briefings to
support action

Skills and abilities

Effective project management skills and record keeping

Ability to develop and maintain effective and influential relationships

Good political acumen, initiative and judgement

Other

Proactive and positive attitude and ability to work collaboratively with
others
