The Extracare Charitable Trust are recruiting for a part time Chef on a permanent contract, based at our Solihull Retirement Village in Birmingham.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Chef to join our friendly, dedicated team at Solihull to support the Village’s commitment in delivering ExtraCare’s mission of “better lives for older people”.

- Position: Chef
- Hours: 20 hours per week (Part Time)
- Contract Type Permanent Contract
- Location: Solihull Retirement Village, West Midlands, B90 2FH
- Hourly Rate: £10.20 per hour (£10,636 pa, pro rata of FTE)
The ExtraCare Charitable Trust is a registered charity that was formed in 1988 to develop pioneering retirement communities for people in their later years and to promote independent living. Our services are activity-based, and residents are supported and encouraged to do things they may never have done before and to thoroughly enjoy their later years.
What will you do as our Chef?
- You will inspire, lead, and have responsibility for the catering and hospitality service at Solihull Retirement Village and to exceed expectations on customer service, financial performance and service quality.
- Be responsible for the delivery and management of the provision of food and beverage services across the Village site.
- Work with the Village Manager to develop the strategy for the hospitality service to contribute to the Village income strategy, including service diversification as appropriate (for instance, events, and meal delivery).
- To contribute to the support offered to residents, working with other Village teams: Care, Wellbeing and dementia support, taking into account any specific dietary needs.
- To promote quality and value for money control procedures for procurement and stock management.
- Engage with residents on menu planning, pricing and service provision.
- To actively monitor customer requirements and proactively address complaints and comments.
- Deliver a safe and compliant service within the legal frameworks of Health and Safety, Food Handling, and Hygiene.
Our ideal Chef:
- Experience in a previous Chef role or a Sous Chef wishing to progress
- Have empathy and understand our residents’ needs and dietary requirements
- Experience across diverse hospitality settings
- Menu planning and budgetary experience
- Team player
- Passionate and enthusiastic with excellent communication skills.
