Project Manager - Inside IR35

Contract Term: 3 Months – with possible ext.

Contracting Authority: DEFRA – Natural England

Location: Hybrid – Remote & any Natural England office as required for meetings.

Over the last year Natural England has received significant additional funding to strengthen its statutory delivery role and to deliver new areas that will, in combination contribute to an ambition to reverse the decline of biodiversity and deliver transformational recovery of nature across large areas of England. It is a priority for our Board that delivery teams can capitalise on this opportunity. Strengthening Delivery is in Phase Two of delivery to improve the way that Natural England is set up to realise the benefits of new delivery tools, systems and processes across our customer facing work and the way we work together across Natural England. Phase Two also includes work to strengthen delivery across our National Nature Reserves. This is a great opportunity to be a part of Natural England’s vision for nature recovery and do essential work to improve the way we are set up to meet our ambitions at a critical time.

As a Project Manager your main responsibilities will be to:

• Apply project management expertise to the day-to-day management of projects – bringing structure & delivery pace.
• Select & apply appropriate delivery methodologies & challenge current project approaches.
• Actively engage with organisational standards & governance structures.
• Work closely with the Head of Strengthening Delivery & overseeing Director – engaging regularly with senior leaders & specialists across the organisation.
• Provide timely updates to project boards.
• Coordination development of business cases & project plans.
• Develop & maintain a detailed programme of work – inc. key milestones, assumptions, dependencies & budget.
• Maximising project benefits – keeping to time, cost & quality whilst identifying & monitoring project risks & issues.

You’ll have relevant experience in:

• Demonstrable Project Management experience – including project initiation, governance, risk & issue management.
• Operational Project Management experience – ideally within public sector.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills & experience – to senior levels.
• Being a self-starter.
