Job Introduction

This role sits in Network Rail Design Delivery (NRDD), part of Engineering Services which is a business unit of Route Services. Route Services is a business area that has been created to provide services to the routes in the safest, most cost-efficient, and effective way, enabling them to benefit from economies of scale and optimised national resources.

Network Rail Design Delivery (NRDD) provide a managed service for design delivery through a regionally focused national multi-disciplinary organisation utilising relationships with supply chain design organisations. NRDD bring a range of different specialist design and engineering activities including Signalling, E&P, LV, B&C and Track Design that complement each other to add value and improve the overall diverse service offering.

Project Managers work across the full portfolio of Network Rails infrastructure investment from minor renewals through to complex multi-disciplinary programmes. Accountable for managing the safe and effective delivery of all projects from low complexity single discipline through to high complexity multi-disciplinary projects in order to meet client requirements to time, cost, quality, and performance.

Main Responsibilities

To develop project or integration programme plans / schedules on behalf of programme and project managers to meet overall requirements of the client / business in most cost effective and reliable manner.

  • To interact and become a key member of the project delivery team providing a quality service to support the effective delivery of the project.
  • To interact and support the effective information sharing / collection with all the project stakeholders in an appropriate manner.
  • Prepare a project work breakdown structure and plan / schedule which can deliver the project objectives and providing effective project performance measurement and reporting.
  • To develop the appropriate quality plan / schedule in line with the project scheduling principles and processes.
  • Monitor and progress the plan / schedule and make changes as required. Develop recovery schedules and contingency plans in order to meet changed objectives as necessary.
  • Input the planning issues into the project’s critical issues risk log. Review planning risks and monitor whether the risk register is updated accordingly.
  • Report actual performance and variance against plan and forecast outcomes. Highlight key milestone and critical path issues to members of the team, provide an assessment of the impact of such issues and recommend solutions to correct the position.
  • Monitor and audit contractor plans. Monitor contractor’s planning processes so that they comply with Network Rail procedure requirements.
  • Interrogate contractor’s statement of progress for schedule adherence and payment purposes.
  • Identify key resource requirements and monitor that these are properly booked and availability is maintained.
The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Experience of using a number of project management scheduling tools and techniques including Primavera P6 (able to demonstrate)
  • Experience of using MS Office products in order to produce reports from Primavera P6 to present to the project management team
  • Experience of planning and reporting on engineering projects

Desirable

  • Knowledge of railway investment processes

Band & Salary: Band 4C (£41,711 - £46,925)
