Background

We have an opportunity for a Research Assistant to work on the Supporting Adolescents with Self-Harm (SASH) study. SASH is a randomised controlled trial which aims to evaluate the clinical- and cost-effectiveness of a brief psychological intervention designed for adolescents presenting to Emergency Departments with self-harm. The project has been generously funded by the Kavli Trust (see: https://kavlifondet.no/en/2021/09/84-million-nok-research-grant-to-reduce-self-harm-in-adolescents/). The intervention is an approach for supporting adolescents who self-harm, combining Therapeutic Assessment, a safety plan and solution-focused follow-up contacts.

Responsibilities

You will contribute to the running of trial across Emergency Departments. You will be responsible for recruiting adolescents from participating Emergency Departments, and collecting outcome and interview data with adolescents, parents and clinicians. The post will involve spending substantial time at Emergency Departments in Greater London. This will require flexible working, travel to sites and work outside of office hours, including evenings.

Person Specification

The postholder will have a relevant first degree and experience working with people with mental health problems. They will have experience of conducting and delivering high quality quantitative research. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to respect and communicate confidential information in a sensitive and effective manner.
