Do you have a creative flair for design, theatre, art and/or drawing? Are you looking for an interesting entry level role where you can grow and develop your experience in a busy, artistic environment, where no two days are the same?

We are looking for a Scenic Artist to join our small, creative team based at our workshops in Stratford-upon-Avon. This role involves creating and painting scenery and props using a variety of advanced techniques and finishes.

This is a wonderful opportunity for a talented artist to work with some of the best designers in the theatre industry. You will be working on a diverse range of projects including, the creation of scenery for multiple RSC stages, including the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, The Swan, The Other Place and our Tours. The scenery we produce isn't limited to the main stage, some is specifically designed and created for our Learning and National Partnerships work and some is used for public display in and around our buildings. You will get to work on site and on location to shape and enhance your work.

What does this role involve?

  • Developing and using specialist techniques to deliver the required scenery
  • Assisting with alterations, maintenance and refurbishment
  • Assisting with the running of the workshop with adherence to health and safety regulations
  • Working with a variety of materials to help with realisation of designs
  • Learning new methods and innovative thinking techniques

We are looking for someone who:

  • Enjoys working collaboratively; supporting and assisting designers, colleagues and creative teams
  • Is proficient in time management and working to deadlines
  • Has the ability to solve problems with a positive, solutions orientated outlook
  • Can make creative contribution to techniques and processes
  • Has the potential to develop and learn new skills

This is a full-time, permanent position, which offers stability, job security and the opportunity for development, alongside the chance to work with world-renowned designers and see your work on the stages of the RSC.

You will be based at our Workshops on Timothy's Bridge Road, in Stratford-upon-Avon, where the working hours will be 44 hours per week, typically Monday to Friday, although occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
