About The Role

As the Senior Database Administrator you will be responsible for ensuring that MySQL Production Database Services are maintained across all technologies and platforms. You will work closely with the Development Team through DBA reviews, decision making processes, technical consultations and improving optimisation and efficiency. You will also monitor, research and assess the technologies in place to provide recommendations for future enhancements

Main responsibilities:

  • Assessing risk and impact of database changes
  • Ensuring the security of our data through access management, backup and recovery and disaster recovery planning
  • Remaining current with new features in MySQL and complementary technologies
  • Researching and testing alternative solutions to help guide our technology choices
  • Automation of any repeated tasks to improve efficiency
In addition to any other duties, as a responsible person you must ensure that you have read, understood and adhere to polices and procedure relating to Health and Safety, and your responsibilities located in the Integrated Management System (IMS) Responsibilities document.

About You

Essential skills & knowledge:

  • At least 2 years' experience maintaining and guiding a production MySQL infrastructure
  • Be Oracle Certified Professional in MySQL Database Administration or willing to complete this certification within first year
  • Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
  • Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Experience with replication configuration in MySQL
  • Knowledge of standards and best practices in MySQL
  • Proficient in writing and optimising SQL statements
  • Ability to automate repeated tasks in a widespread and supported programming language such as Python
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
