Main duties of the job

To support the registered nurses and members of the MDT in the delivery of patient care. and uphold and maintain infection Control.

To develop and practice competently under the supervision of a qualified nurse following necessary training, phlebotomy skills, urinalysis, pregnancy testing, observations and managing specimens.

To clearly document any interventions in the relevant patient records and sign in accordance with local policy

Able to recognise and report changes in priorities of patient care and takes a proactive approach to responding to and reporting needs.

Following training and competency assessment, ability to remove and apply wound dressings.

To initiate emergency procedures as appropriate, e.g. fire, security, cardiac arrest, offering support to staff, reassurance to patients and relatives.

11 South is a busy 16 bedded ward. The staff are hardworking, welcoming and friendly. We encourage staff to self roster their shifts and take an active interest in developing staff.

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good standard of general education.
  • GCSE English and Mathgrade C
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ3

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent clinical experience
  • Recent experience of dealing with the public
  • To have an interest in Infectious Diseases/HIV
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to accept training and feedback
  • To have previous hospital experience in Infectious Diseases/HIV

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Competent in phlebotomy
  • To have a good knowledge of infection control
  • Ability to organise own workload and use own initiatives with clear decision-making
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the type of work encountered in the ward environment
  • Willing to undertake cannulation training
  • Ability to remove and apply wound dressings
  • IT skills including Word and Excel
