Service Manager Initial Response Service

An new opportunity has arisen within Plymouth City Council Children, Young People and Families Service for a dedicated Service Manager for our redesigned and fully resourced Initial Response Service – which includes MASH, out of hours and our initial response teams. The service enjoys high morale and at the time of advertising has no vacancies for permanent staff, offering an exceptional opportunity to build and lead a high performing team.

The successful applicant will provide dedicated leadership to support the embedding of a restorative learning culture alongside service improvement. You will be committed to delivering an excellent safeguarding response to children and families in need of statutory investigation and intervention. You will be able to develop links and pathways to targeted and universal services for those in need of an early help response. You will line manage the team managers for MASH, out of hours service and initial response.

To be the right person to deliver our vision for the future, you will be/have been a successful manager in a children’s social work setting with experience of partnership working. Ideally you will have expertise of managing high quality frontline services and in leading measurable change and service improvement. You will be a creative and outcome focused leader with the highest aspirations for children.

This is a permanent appointment and the successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the realisation of our restructure of our front door services. You will understand what creates high quality assessments of risk and need. You will be confident in making decisions regarding thresholds, including for significant harm under s47 of the Children Act. You will understand the importance of promoting upbringing for children within their families, where this is safe or can be made safe to do so. We are a trauma informed city wide partnership and this ethos underpins our work with each other.

As part of an extended leadership team, you will enjoy collegiate support from others to systemically deliver our quality assurance aspirations, taking a curious and open approach to suggesting and delivering new ways of working. You will receive a series of dedicated learning events to support your professional development and will encourage and enable this commitment to learning within your teams. We have an excellent Academy of Social Work with an extensive training offer.
