The Shaping Places for Wellbeing programme is a delivery partnership between the Improvement Service (IS) and Public Health Scotland (PHS), funded and supported by The Health Foundation and Scottish Government, with support from COSLA.

The programme is running until March 2024.

The Improvement Service (IS) is a publicly funded company limited by guarantee. We exist to support councils and their partners to improve the health, quality of life and opportunities of all Scottish people through community leadership, strong local governance and the delivery of high quality, efficient local services.

The overall aim of the Shaping Places for Wellbeing programme is to improve Scotland’s wellbeing by reducing the significant inequality in the health of its people while addressing the health of our planet.

Supporting local communities, local health boards and their partners to work and plan together, and with communities, the programme will establish new ways of working across national and local, and sectoral and disciplinary boundaries.

With action anchored in promoting delivery of the Place and Wellbeing Outcomes, the programme will& support long term, preventative interventions in our places to ensure the places in which people live work and relax are enabling their health and wellbeing. To reduce inequalities the programme needs to ensure actions and decisions about a place are driven by what everyone in that community needs from their place to enable them to thrive.

The Shaping Places for Wellbeing Programme is working with 6 Project Towns (Alloa, Clydebank, Rutherglen, Fraserburgh, Ayr and Dunoon) as well as a network of local partnerships and national leaders to share challenges and learning.

An exciting opportunity has arisen with the Improvement Service, South Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire and Arran for the role of part time Community Link Lead, to support taking this work forward in Ayr.

Working in every Project Town is a Project Lead. The Ayr Community Link Lead will be managed by the Ayr Project Lead and be part of the Shaping Places for Wellbeing – Ayr Local Project Team.

This is an exciting new role which would suit someone who has at least 2 years' experience of working in the third sector, or within a local community group setting.
