We are seeking an experienced researcher in molecular epidemiology to join the UK Public Health Rapid Support Team (UK-PHRST), a partnership between the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and UK Health Security Agency funded by UK aid via DHSC. The UK-PHRST partners Low and MIddle Income Countries (LMICs), international organisations, NGOs and academic partners to strengthen preparedness for and response to infectious disease outbreaks.
The postholder will develop and deliver an innovative research portfolio in molecular epidemiology aligned with UK-PHRST objectives for outbreak response, research, and capacity development. They will manage research projects and provide operational molecular epidemiology expertise across the programme. They should expect to travel frequently to strengthen partnerships and support research and capacity development, including advancement of molecular epidemiologists, in LMICs
The successful candidate will have a Doctoral degree in a relevant topic e.g. epidemiology, microbiology and/or related biological science, significant data-handling skills including establishing bio-informatic pipelines, expertise in high-quality academic research and of working with LMICs.
The post is full-time, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2025. The post is funded by the UK Government Overseas Development Aid and available from 13 February 2023.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 7 in the range £48,827-£55,895 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part-time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London but, as noted above, the post holder should be willing to spend substantial periods of time in partner countries.
