Community Engagement Officer, Greater Manchester Job at The Royal British Legion
The Role
Community Engagement Officers are required in the West Midlands, Greater Manchester, West of England Combined Authority Areas and across South Wales (Newport, Cardiff and Swansea). The successful candidates in each area will be expected to live within the area in which they are employed.
We are ambitious to improve our engagement with all communities across our wonderful diverse nation, and to connect people with each other – and with RBL and the Armed Forces community – through our shared history of service and sacrifice.
RBL makes a huge impact in the lives of serving and ex-serving armed forces personnel and their families through our campaigns, support services and - of course - our lead role in Remembrance. Our Armed Forces Community and those that serve are diverse, from a huge variety of backgrounds, including both the UK and Commonwealth nations. And they serve to protect all of us, and to defend our ways of life and democratic freedoms.
We want to ensure that Remembrance is a unifying factor for all of us and recognise that all communities have a strong history of service and sacrifice that it is relevant to us all. We will do this through exploring the contribution of the armed forces past and present, working in partnership with communities to tell their stories and raise awareness.
If successful, the main duties of your role will be:
- Develop and implement a community engagement strategy for your city region, taking account of the full diversity of communities across the area and local context for engagement with – or disengagement from – the Armed Forces community
- Build and strengthen relationships with key influencers within civic society and grassroots organisations across the city region, to facilitate connection and engagement
- Develop, and at times lead, community engagement practices – e.g. events, storytelling, exhibitions – that have a real impact locally, and improve RBL presence and local understanding of the work that we deliver
- Raise awareness across RBL’s teams of the diversity of communities within your city region, and what matters to them, to ensure that membership, services, fundraising and remembrance activity is relevant to these communities, and sensitive to local cultures and priorities
Diversity Statement
We believe that the compassion, understanding, and service we show each and every individual should be reflected in the way we all support, respect, and include every individual who works with us. We want everyone involved in our work or receiving our services, to feel proud to contribute to or be part of a diverse and inclusive organisation.
We recognise that we still have a long way to go to ensure that we make the RBL a truly great and inclusive organisation to work for and be part of so we have set out our commitments to provide a clear path to deliver this ambition. We will keep listening, learning, and sharing our progress and impact.
