Designer / Creative Artworker

Location: The Spine, Liverpool
Salary: Grade 4: £25,585 per annum
Contract type: 12-month FTC (maternity cover)

Working hours: Full time (35 hours a week), but open to requests to work part time. Standard working hours between 9 – 5, Monday to Friday. Hybrid working, with a minimum of 2 days a week in the office.

Purpose of the role

We are looking to appoint an experienced middleweight designer/artworker to join the Corporate Communications and Publishing (CC&P) team for 12 months. This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive and organised individual to provide a creative and effective design/artworking service to the RCP, delivered to a high standard and on time.

This is a hybrid working role with a minimum of 2 days per week in The Spine, Liverpool. You will be reporting to and working closely with the brand and design services manager, who is based in our London office. Together, you will provide a design service to teams across the RCP. You will act as our local brand champion in Liverpool, promoting best design practices and ensuring that colleagues follow our RCP brand guidelines. As the CC&P team is based over two sites, there will be occasions for the successful applicant to travel to London due to work demands or team events.

Responsibilities will include:

  • drive projects from concept to completion
  • implement creative and engaging on-brand design solutions to meet project requirements and deadlines, in particular digital communications, display and large format exhibition graphics, leaflets, reports, newsletters, infographics, merchandise and templates
  • formulate product visuals within a given schedule, delivering a variety of assets on time across multiple projects and concurrent deadlines
  • document and communicate your work efficiently and effectively to a variety of stakeholders and colleagues, from peers through to senior leaders across the RCP
  • maintain accurate design-related records and files for each project
  • act as a brand guardian, protecting and enhancing the RCP’s reputation by ensuring the creative and correct application of the RCP’s visual identity across all design assets.

About you:

  • professional or vocational qualification in graphic design
  • minimum 3 years’ experience as a designer/artworker, either with an agency or as part of an in-house team
  • an excellent portfolio consisting of a variety of creative digital and print design solutions
  • an experienced Mac user with strong skills in Adobe Creative Suite
  • an excellent eye for detail and a great understanding of typography, layout, colour, and overall composition
  • experience in creating infographics and data visualisation
  • a proven ability to realise multiple design projects in a fast-paced environment
  • can work as part of a team but also independently, taking ownership of projects and seeing them through to conclusion to a high standard within budget and on time
  • a positive ‘can-do’ attitude with a proactive problem-solving approach
  • excellent interpersonal skills and communication with colleagues and external partners at all levels of seniority.
