About The Role
RAC have an exciting new opportunity for an experienced ER Advisor to join an established friendly, fast paced ER team on a 12 month FTC. Operating within the centralised HR department, you'll be experienced at managing a variety of cases, all with varying complexity.
You will be able to get your teeth into the full range of ER activities: advising on cases, coaching managers, working in partnership with stakeholders, designing and delivering workshops for managers, contributing to the development of employment policies, producing guidance, facilitating the resolution of issues, liaising with TU representatives, supporting consultation exercises and helping to take forward the Company’s people agenda (including wellbeing as well as equality, diversity and inclusion).

Working hours are 35 hours per week across Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm. This position is a hybrid role (two days on-site working -normally at our Bescot RAC Office in Walsall, although there is potential for occasional travel to Bristol and/or Stretford).
Job Description
On a day to day basis you can expect to provide advice and guidance to managers, HR business partners and colleagues on the full range of people management issues, e.g. related to conduct, absence, grievances, family leave, performance management, organisational change and so on.
A proven ability to build stakeholder relationships will be critical as you will be liaising with managers, HR Business Partners and Trade Union representatives to ensure that issues are resolved appropriately and in-line with Company policy, procedure, and legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an up to date knowledge of employment law, policy, and practice
- Ensure that all ER cases are monitored and escalated through the appropriate channels as required and within the required timescales.
- Collate and analyse information, as required, so that metrics and/or reports can be produced to contribute to decision making, the development of managerial insight and monitoring of performance on ER cases or matters.
- Collate information including investigation reports, disciplinary notes, and any other correspondence to create case files.
- Review appropriate correspondence in partnership with the line manager and HR Business Partner / Consultant.
- Liaise with external legal advisors on complex cases.
- Meet with Managers and HR to provide advice, support and guidance on matters related to employment policy, practice, and law, as required.
- To provide HR Business Partners and managers with technical and practical advice on complex employee relation issues – so that actual and potential risks can be identified, and case management strategies agreed.
- To deliver Employee Relations training, coaching, and other knowledge/skills development initiatives across the business to raise awareness / standards of practice across all people managers.
About You
The RAC are looking to appoint someone with recent work experience in this field and possess the ability to advise managers on HR/ER related matters. We are keen to receive applications from candidates who hold CIPD qualifications or with a relevant HR experience.

- demonstrably high level of knowledge of employment law, policy, and practice
- Experience of managing a high-volume workload in a fast-paced environment, so that deadlines and required outcomes are consistently met
- Ability to apply judgement and initiative in pressurised situations.
- Ability to interpret and apply policy in practice
- Effective written and oral communication skills displaying confidence, assertiveness and professionalism when engaging with varied colleague groups and levels of managers.
- Effective administrative skills
- Experience monitoring quality and performance through SLA’s
- IT literate
