Energy Recovery Facilities are vital in supporting the UK’s ambition to reduce waste in an efficient and effective manner, helping to reduce the impact of waste on climate change. After reducing, reusing and recycling as much as possible, our Energy Recovery Facilities (ERFs) provide the infrastructure to efficiently recover energy from residual waste, meaning landfill becomes the last resort.


We have a new opportunity for an experienced Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to join our team at our Polymers Reprocessing Facility in Bristol.


About the role


As our Environmental, Health and Safety Manager, you’ll be responsible for the management and monitoring of safety systems, procedures and safe systems of work as well as monitoring and managing compliance with the relevant ISO standards ad other accreditations.


You’ll have the ability to interpret data, to assess and improve the effectiveness of control measures at the site and managing appropriate actions to prevent breeches or incidents.


Working closely with the General Manager and the site management team, you will provide health and safety leadership across the site, implementing policies and procedures to deliver a highly compliant, quality led environment, with safety at its core.


What are we looking for?


  • Demonstrable experience of managing health and safety within a complex workplace
  • Significant experience of permitted / regulated activities and processes, preferably within a controlled emissions environment
  • Strong leadership skills to lead and develop a new team in a start-up scenario with a no compromise approach to health, safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ability to work with the Management Team to embed a safety and compliance focussed culture within a complex workplace
  • Good analytics skills with a clear thought process and high level of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of the technical aspects of waste management
  • Science based degree (or equivalent) or comparable experience
  • IOSH/NEBOSH safety qualification (or equivalent)
  • Awareness of the relevant management standards ISO9001, ISO14001.
