The role

The Head of Sustainability will partner with key stakeholders to ensure that the Society can effectively navigate the challenge of being a ‘Mission Led Mutual’. Helping guide the way where complex business challenges exist, helping stakeholders navigate a pragmatic line, always holding the Member voice as a key reflection point. You’ll be key to driving our ‘agitation for change’ agenda, ensuring that the Society’s voice is authentic and grounded in action.

You’ll lead the external collaboration with relevant partners and affiliated bodies to ensure that Ecology has a broader ‘network’ effect and ensure that relevant insight and challenge is provided to a Head of Product and Marketing and their team to enable the delivery of ‘Impact Led Products’.

Key deliverables will include:

  • Identify and execute innovative projects - related to TCFD, Net Zero, Green Finance, ESG, Carbon Pricing and Environment Impact valuation
  • Development and implementation of Ecology’s ESG strategy and net zero action plan around our Mission and Impact
  • Provide leadership and advice across the Society on key sustainability initiatives to support the delivery of the overall 2030 strategy.
  • Work with the PR Manager and Head of Product & Marketing to develop a highly effective communication roadmap that delivers sustainability strategies and programmes, as well as creating briefings and content to use with key stakeholders
  • Identify key industry bodies for partnerships and affiliations to be able to amplify our impact
  • Identify the key success metrics of the Society’s 2030 strategy and through effective stakeholder management, communication and engagement, deliver impact measurement.
  • Represent the Society as one it’s key voices at external opportunities, challenging the norm.

Key skills & experience

  • Demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of environmental and sustainability strategies in a commercial environment
  • Evidence of skills from multiple subject areas such as competitor research, data analysis, strategy development, problem solving and risk management
  • Experience of developing impact metrics, climate related disclosures, net zero strategies and targets and delivering against these.
  • Evidence of collaborating across internal partners to develop strategy and deliver initiatives which make valuable contributions to our members and the environment

Candidates will be passionate about the environment, sustainability and understand the role finance can play in agitating for change in the system. You will bring an entrepreneurial and enabling mindset as well as a breadth of experience, insight and will have the ability to lead others through change.

Highly effective at strategic and operational levels, you will also have a strong heart for Ecology’s work to champion a greener society.
