The International Passenger Survey is the largest, most authoritative survey of its kind in the UK. It has been providing data to a variety of organisations and government departments for over 60 years. Our clients include: Visit Britain, Balance of Payments, HM Revenue and Customs, Health Analysis and Pandemic Insights. Visit Britain use our data to identify and monitor UK inbound tourism to help build a detailed understanding of global target markets and broader travel trends. No personal data is collected or stored. Our data enables Visit Britain to provide information & advice to Government (the data you will collect impacts government policy) and the tourism industry and monitor perceptions of Britain amongst visitors and potential visitors. Balance of Payments use the IPS data to record foreign resident spend in the UK and compare with UK resident spend abroad.
Job description
You will be based at Bristol Airport this will be considered your normal place of work (your base site).
IPS shifts are allocated on a 6 weekly basis with a mixture of AM & PM weekday and weekend shifts. Depending on your site, shifts lengths vary from 4 – 8 hours. As an IPS Interviewer, you will work as part of a small team using your friendly interpersonal skills to persuade a wide range of people to participate in this important interview. Some people take more persuading than others to take part, therefore you will need an adaptable interviewing style.
Once the information has been gathered, you will enter it on to a tablet. You will be provided with a free uniform. Car parking is available at all sites. You will be employed on an 18 month fixed term contract for 832 hours per annum. This broadly equates to 16 hours per week. More information on annualised contracts and how they work can be found in the candidate pack. Flexibility in when you can work is a requirement of our business. Therefore, if you have any regular set commitments on any day of the week, this will preclude you from applying.
Person specification
Essential requirements for the IPS Interviewer role are:
- At home, you must have a wireless broadband connection as you will be provided with a tablet to access your work emails.
- You will need to be proficient in the use of a tablet or smartphone, as you will be issued with a tablet to use in your work.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills and a passion for meeting and talking to people.
- Proven team player
- You must declare any unspent convictions and convictions pending (excluding parking offences). Do not give details of any conviction(s) that are spent under the ‘Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974’. Should you have any doubt as to whether or not a conviction is spent, you should seek advice from an appropriate person, e.g. a solicitor, the Clerk of the Court where you were convicted or a Citizens Advice Bureau.
- Be able to embrace the physical aspects of the role and adapt to a fast-paced working environment, where you will often conduct an interview on the move. This will require the need to move through congested areas, negotiate flights of stairs and restricted areas with limited access, long walks at airports and at quayside operation sites (where relevant to the post) to also negotiate busy car lanes.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION:

Assessment at application stage will be based on your work history, skill and experience and personal statement. Your application should be tailored to demonstrate any skills, knowledge and experience that are relevant to the content of the role.

As the criteria are scored, we would recommend that you give clear examples for each including the impact of your actions. Success Profiles Behaviour examples are not required at this stage.
In cases where there is a high number of applications, the sift pass mark may be adjusted and candidates will be invited to interview in merit order i.e., those scoring the highest. Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview.

If you application is successful, you will be invited to attend a video interview lasting between 30-45 minutes. At interview, you will be assessed on your suitability for the role by providing us with evidence in the interview to support what you included in your application. You should make time to familiarize yourself with the required behaviours before interviewed have a list of questions that you may wish to ask prepared.
A reserve list may be held for a period up to 6 months from which further appointments may be made.
Feedback will only be provided if you attend an interview or assessment.
