We are looking to recruit an additional clinical fellow to join our dedicated gynaecologic team here at the QE Hospital, Gateshead. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual interested in a career in Gynaecological Oncology to work within the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (NGOC), based at the QE Hospital Gateshead. NGOC has a well-established international reputation for successfully training high calibre clinical fellows and subspecialty fellows.

This is a clinical post, and the successful individual will support the service in delivery of clinics, theatre lists and ward based care, as well as support to the on-call service provision. Opportunities to contribute to the on-going research work across the department may be available, and input and support to the established clinical governance arrangements for the service is expected.

Based in the North East of England we provide a range of hospital and community health services from our facilities including the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Blaydon Urgent Care Centre and Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.

As an organisation, we employ around 4,200 staff and currently provide 600 hospital beds across Gateshead. Our primary focus is to provide excellent general health services to our local community complemented by key specialist areas.

Alongside a full range of local hospital services, we provide breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham - and we are the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer and AAA Screening Programmes, covering a population of around seven million people.

The post-holder will be trained to assess and support the management of the patients referred to our tertiary unit. The post holder’s clinical duties will be based on our in-patient surgical ward, but will also have the opportunities to support clinics and theatre sessions. This encompasses arranging investigations, selecting appropriate treatment and providing post-operative care. The post holder will require excellent communication skills to work on our in-patient ward providing care to patients with a wide range of disease presentations. Communication, team working and organizational skills are paramount in the care of our patients. The post holder will be required to demonstrate an awareness of the limitations of their practice.

The post holder will also be expected to attend a variety of outpatient clinics which include new/return Gynae-oncology clinics, colposcopy clinics and vulval skin clinics.

The post holder will be expected to both assist and have the opportunity to develop surgical skills in the operating theatre.

The post holder’s clinical timetable will vary depending on the clinical demands on the service.
