About 'The Park'

‘The Park’ is a multi-award winning bottling facility, employing almost 400 people and producing 25 million 9L case equivalents of wine each year. Our state of the art manufacturing and blending plant has the ability to package an extensive range of formats, from 187ml to 1.5L in glass bottles, plastic bottles, cans and bag in box, through to 1.5L to 10L casks. With six packaging lines and the capacity to produce 1,200 bottles of wine every minute, The Park is also home to the largest wine warehouse and distribution centre in Europe (80,000m²).

About the role

We are now recruiting for a Laboratory Technician to join our Quality team supporting our Manufacturing operations.

Responsible for all quality standards and testing of the bulk wine and packaged wine produced on the lines, recording all test results, analysing issues and leading corrective actions.

This role is permanent, based at The Park in Avonmouth, Bristol.

It is a full-time role working a shift pattern of rotating Days and Nights (07.00-19.00/19.00-07.00)

Key responsibilities include:

• Responsible for all quality standards and testing of the bulk wine and packaged product produced on the line, ensuring expected microbiological and organoleptic levels are achieved.
• You will deliver in a flexible and timely manner, a range of laboratory services and technical support to provide the Winery with key information on the products it produces, thereby establishing standards on which quality performance can be measured.
• To be able to take responsibility on Quality decisions in the absence of the Laboratory Team Leader/QC Manager
• To constantly challenge the standards in order to continuously improve
• Working within the team objectives and developing cross functional relationships
• To be competent in all analytical, microbiological, organoleptic and packaging testing techniques as per the Laboratory standard operational procedures.
• To use these techniques to carry out chemical, microbiological, organoleptic and packaging testing according to defined quality plans and report back results in a timely manner with recommendation for follow-up action where appropriate.
• To be competent in the operation of all laboratory IT systems and record product test results in an accurate and timely manner, and be able to retrieve data from these systems to produce reports.
• Proactively operate within a lean philosophy ensuring continuous improvements across all areas of business processes are achieved. Specific focus on delivering high standards on workplace organisation across the whole of Operations.
• To ensure that all finished pack stock, including externally produced stock, releases are achieved in a timely manner as requested and inform management of any potential supply issues.
• To raise non-conformance reports on all quality related issues, communicate these in a timely manner to relevant parties, and lead corrective actions within the Laboratory area to completion.
• To suggest and implement preventative actions and to ensure these actions are communicated effectively across the relevant departments.

What you'll bring:

• You will have experience working within a Laboratory environment, preferably in a food/beverage FMCG organisation
• Degree in a science related subject
• COSHH experience preferred
• Good attention to detail and strong communication skills
• Proactive, excellent organisational skills and a passion for wine!
