The School of Teacher Education (Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Education – FAHE) is seeking to appoint a 1fte Lead Mentor (Primary Initial Teacher Education [ITE]). This is an exciting opportunity to undertake a new and significant leadership role that will be central to the delivery of high-quality ITE in the primary age-phase. This includes courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, currently comprising: BA (Hons) Primary Education full-time and part-time, PGCE Primary full-time, PGCE Primary with Mathematics Specialism, PGCE Primary Flexible and School Direct (Salaried and Unsalaried - Primary).
The Lead Mentor (Primary ITE) will work collaboratively with university-based and school-based colleagues to
ensure and
assure that ITE trainees receive an excellent placement experience. This will include taking a strategic lead on the development and implementation of robust quality assurance mechanisms related to in-school mentoring and coaching. The role-holder will also be expected to make a strong contribution to course development following the DfE award as accredited providers of ITE courses from 2024 in Round 1 (May 2022).
The successful applicant will have recent experience of working in a primary school context and a track record in mentoring trainees and supporting school-based staff in this respect. As well as being an advocate for high-quality mentoring and mentor training, and the value of participation in this for schools and school staff, you will be committed to a trainee curriculum that values both theory and practice. The role is ideally suited to those who have been working in ITE within Higher Education or a school context and are seeking to transition into a Higher Education.
