Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council deals with the pension benefits of around 70,000 members across 50 Employers and as administrators of the LGPS we are part of one of the biggest public sector pension schemes in the UK. Our aim is to provide an accurate and customer focussed service to our members from joining the scheme to their retirement.

We also administer the pension benefits of Fire Officers employed by South Wales Fire and Rescue Service.

We are looking for 5 enthusiastic, self-motivated people to join our team as Pensions Officers.

The post holder will be responsible for: maintaining member records, understanding and interpreting Regulations that apply to the LGPS and Fire Pension Schemes. The calculation and payment of pension benefits at leaving, retirement and on death and the calculation of transfers in and out. All other calculations necessary to ensure member pension benefits are accurate and paid in accordance with Regulations. Ensuring that correspondence issued to members is clear and accurate. Dealing with data interfaces and answering member and employer telephone and email queries.

The successful candidates will need to be interested in learning and enjoy taking on different tasks. Be thorough, with an attention to detail and aim to complete each piece of work allocated to them “right first time”. Be comfortable dealing with high volumes of a variety of different tasks and able to manage their own workload. Be team players who enjoy working with others. Successful candidates will also need to be good communicators, both in written and verbal communications and be focused on providing excellent customer service

Previous experience of working in a pensions environment, especially the LGPS and Fire Pension Schemes, would be beneficial for this role but is not essential as training will be provided.

You will be supported in your personal development and have the opportunity to gain industry qualifications as your career progresses.

We currently work on a hybrid model – we are home based for 3 days and attend the office 2 days a week. Office days are on a set rolling three weekly rota and the team all attend on the same days. Initial training may be full time office based. Offices are based in Oldway House, Porth.
