Skanska Group uses knowledge and foresight to shape the way people live, work and connect. More than 135 years in the making, we are one of the world’s largest development and construction companies. We create innovative and sustainable solutions that support healthy living beyond our lifetime. Established in the UK in 2000, Skanska has more than 3,300 local experts delivering projects across sectors including real estate, defence, education, highways, rail and water.

We are looking for enthusiastic GIS Analyst University students to join our 2023 summer placement programme and help us shape the future.

As an Intern GIS Analyst with Skanska, you will join our A428 highways project for 8-12 weeks during the University summer break.

The A428 Project

We are upgrading the A428 between the Black Cat and Caxton Gibbet roundabouts in Cambridgeshire with a new 10-mile dual carriageway. This scheme for National Highways will deliver significant benefits to road users and the local community by improving journeys between Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge.

Skanska is responsible for the design and build of the scheme, which will involve upgrading the route running from the Black Cat roundabout near St Neots to Caxton Gibbet. The route is the only remaining stretch of single carriageway between the M1 near Milton Keynes and Cambridge.

There are also a number of junction improvements which include several new bridges spanning the carriageway and river, plus a new three-tier junction at Black Cat roundabout which will allow free flowing traffic onto the A1 and the new dual carriageway. The scheme includes safe crossing points for walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and reconnections for disrupted rights of way.
