The post holder will provide operational management of central student survey campaigns at BNU, including survey design, preparing student data, exporting and analysing response rates/ results for the National Student Survey (NSS), UK Engagement Survey (UKES), Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), as well as other internal surveys at both a programme and module level.
The post holder will be required to use their own initiative to manage, prioritise and action a varied and demanding workload, to bring best practices to the Directorate. They must be proactive and flexible in delivering support to colleagues across the university and be able to operate under pressure with minimal supervision.

Job Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for managing the coordination, delivery and enhancement of the University’s key functions related to student surveys. Providing high-level support and guidance for student feedback across the university and its partners.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:

  • To lead on the operational aspects of the University’s participation in a range of annual student surveys (external and internal) including; the National Student Survey (NSS), the Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey (PTES), BNU mid-semester surveys as well as other programme and module specific surveys
  • To Develop the annual schedule of surveys by liaising and working closely with colleagues across the university, with the aim of documenting all student survey activity to reduce survey fatigue and ensure alignment with wider student voice activity
  • Prepare survey questions for the BNU mid-semester survey as well as other programme specific surveys and seek agreement through the Student Survey Action Group (SSAG)
  • Design and prepare online surveys using dedicated survey software ‘EvaSys’ ensuring these are easy to navigate, visually appealing and easy to read to ensure and encourage survey completion by participants
  • Prepare student survey population data by extracting large data sets from our Management Information System (MIS), and sort and filter this accordingly to prepare an accurate student population depending on the survey e.g., Undergraduate, Postgraduate, Programme specific
  • Regularly review, monitor and report survey response rates to key stakeholders at BNU and Partner Institutions
  • To export survey results and send these to relevant stakeholders at BNU and Partner Institutions, ensuring they are uploaded in a timely manner to BNU’s data analysis software ‘Tableau’
  • To work with colleagues across BNU to enhance and continually improve student feedback mechanisms, ensuring best practice; Actively participate and support the Student Survey Action Group (SSAG) and other survey specific working groups to ensure effective planning and delivery of surveys, preparing papers, and briefing notes as required
  • To work closely with all the Schools and relevant Professional Service Directorates including; the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience), the Office of the Dean of Students, Marketing and Communications, Students’ Union and Strategic Planning & Change
  • Act as lead contact for the NSS provider Ipsos MORI, AdvanceHE as well as the survey software provider EvaSys
  • Support student survey campaigns, promoting engagement and participation by supporting planned sessions for survey completion. Prepare briefing materials, design and update participation trackers
  • Keep up to date with developments in the sector with regard to student surveys, including Advance HE, the Office for Students (OfS) and the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA); to ensure best practice and compliance with requirements
  • On an ad-hoc basis, support relevant university-wide projects related to student surveys

  • To assist with the University’s Graduation Ceremonies, undertaking specific tasks as required.
