Research Assistant Job at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust
Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust London WC1E
This post will involve working on the Fathers Together study (www.fatherstogether.co.uk), a National Institute for Health Research funded prison research study led by Dr Anita Mehay and Professor Richard Watt at UCL. The study aims to develop a parenting programme for young minoritised fathers in prison to support overall family wellbeing. The study directly relates to a number of important research priorities including health inequalities, race/ethnicity and disadvantage/discrimination, as well as early childhood experiences (where having a parent in prison is associated with detrimental outcomes). The study is highly applied in nature and will involve significant contact and collaborative work with young men in prison settings and their families, as well as prison staff, and health and social care agencies working in prisons.
The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day running of the study, including all aspects of data collection and fieldwork, and you will be required to work closely with the co-Chief Investigators’s. Youwill also be required to work closely with colleagues at the Race Equality Foundation and support the Public Involvement activities which are an integral part of the research process. You must be willing to travel to selected prisons across southern England , comfortable and confident working in these settings directly with staff and prisoners. You will be required to navigate a changing and challenging phase for conducting research in prisons but there is significant opportunity for real-world impact in the post-Covid recovery.
You will be mainly based at University College London, Department of Epidemiology & Public Health/ Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust which is based in central London and Kentish Town with excellent transport links. You also work closely with the Race Equality Foundation.
