ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES
What are the key objectives and expectations from this role?
The Scientist I role will utilise technical expertise in a specific workstream of an overarching science plan to assist in the delivery of technology/product development programmes, thus ensuring technology and product platforms are developed in line with R&D portfolio and broader business needs.
What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization?
This role will assist the Senior Scientist and Scientist II roles across multiple projects, contributing specific technical guidance to aid product development, consumer product safety and regulatory engagement, whilst working to enhance personal development through gaining a depth and breadth of product knowledge.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR
- To apply technical expertise in a particular area of the science plan, such as the testing protocol of products, interpretation of product data for product assessment and claims substantiation, in order to support the delivery of development programs
- To work closely and to assist the Science II role in executing elements of the science plan with the aim to be upskilled and build personal capability, acquiring greater depth and breadth of knowledge in this space
- To understand the science plan, delivering the required activities in line with project timescales and launch deadlines
- To develop in-depth knowledge of product and product testing requirements, resulting in agile delivery of science activities, and providing support to product developers
- To have versatility in working across multiple projects within the team/area, leveraging technical expertise in a particular area to support on delivery execution
- To escalate any issues within the project delivery to senior scientists to ensure risks/difficulties are dealt with in a timely manner and knowledge gaps are thus filled
- To ensure the confidentiality of all technology and compositions which ensure the uniqueness of BAT output
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Experience Required
- Product Science testing techniques (e.g., analytical) to provide a robust scientific testing approach to support product safety, product compliance, product claims and regulatory assessments
- To have a developing knowledge of New Category Products composition, function, operating principles and testing approaches
- Some experience in the interpretation of scientific data to inform agile product development
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Ability to apply scientific learnings from first principles to enable the effective delivery of product science testing solutions
- Strong skills in the interpretation of data and reporting (written and verbal).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Able to develop both individual and team technical capabilities
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Degree-level qualification in a science discipline (i.e., chemistry, materials science, food chemistry etc.)
