The Division of Mechanical Engineering and Design at London South Bank University (LSBU) has a part-time 0.8 FTE postdoctoral research position available with a September start date.

The postdoctoral researcher will be working on a TIDAL N+ (EPSRC) funded project investigating the design of a flexible lower-limb prosthetic socket for low- and middle-income countries. Working with amputees in northern Sri Lanka, designers at LSBU, and engineers the University of Southampton and, the postdoctoral researcher will co-design, prototype, and test a flexible, load-bearing prosthetic socket. The structural strength and performance of the socket will be tested computationally using finite element analysis (FEA) and experimentally, using a mechanical testing rig.

Candidates should demonstrate expertise in one or more of the following skillsets:

  • Prosthetic sockets
  • End-user design
  • Computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Prototyping
  • Finite element analysis (FEA)

The postdoctoral researcher will be situated within Berthaume AnthroEngineering (BAE) Labs. Candidates from a wide range of backgrounds/experience including fields such as prosthetic and orthotics, design, mechanical engineering, materials science, biomechanics, bioengineering, and biomedical engineering are encouraged to apply.
