My client in the Rotherham area of South Yorkshire are looking for an experienced PLC Engineer.

Role Description

Due to the ongoing growth of the business, we are recruiting an additional PLC Software Engineer. The successful candidate will form part of a dynamic team to develop software and features of both existing and new products. A full job description is available on request.

Main duties & responsibilities

Programming PLC with Structure Text (Preferred to be Schneider PLC) and HMI devices for our bespoke and standard Energy Management Systems which may include batteries, inverters, converters and transformers
Provide 2ndLine support to manufacturing and customers
Configuring all third-party devices and making sure the communication between them works, especially with Modbus TCP/IP and RS485 protocols
Engage with Electrical and Hardware teams as well as Micro-Grid control strategy design teams to clarify features and functionality

Skills, experience & education

2:1 or equivalent Degree in Computer Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering or related degree
At least 2 years of experience of software development, ideally in a commercial environment
Strong knowledge in Structured Text
At least 1 of the following OOP software languages; C, C++, Java, C#, Python, BASIC
Good understanding of Electrical Systems, and ability to read Electrical Schematics
Good TCP/IP networking skills
Deep Understanding and utilisation of automation protocols – Modbus TCP/IP and Modbus RTU (RS485)
Flexibility to learn additional tools and skills as required
Strong organisation skills with the ability to manage and reset priorities as needed
Flexibility and customer focused
UK Driving licence as occasional travel required for on-site troubleshooting/field-upgrades
Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office packages or equivalent
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including report writing
Good understanding of micro-grid systems including battery, generators, as well as renewable energy

What we offer

Salary of £35,000 - £50,000 depending upon experience
